It is 2087 on Little Blue. Global population has dropped to a mere six billion people. Women, who outnumber men by a ratio of 12-to-1, are in absolute control of the affairs of the planet. Humans are Little Blue's only animal life form because, on a single day in 2021, called "Empty Monday," all non-human animals have mysteriously died. All subsequent attempts to clone stored animal DNA have failed. Women who are lovers or who have been lovers, can fly together without the aid of wings or motors.
World governing bodies must soon decide whether or not to legalize 1) the use of convicted social offenders in the surgical search for a physiological violence center in the brain, and 2) the surgical Anti-Violence Protocols which would assure the docility of potentially violent people if such a violence center were to be found. Zude, one of the world's three Magisters of the global peacekeeping force, the Kanshoubu, fervently opposes both the Research and the Protocols. Her old lover, charismatic witch Jezebel Stronglaces, leads the grassroots global forces in fighting for the institution of the Research and the Protocols. Their struggle as adversaries escalates when prisoners, almost exclusively men, erupt into violence in protest of the two proposals. The unforseen events that follow warn of the whole race's possible extinction. |
